I read a long flowery description of the sonic differences between
them once. The writer, a Kansas City vacuum cleaner salesman, averred
there were significant, yet subtle differences between the tubes.

What this guy did not know is that there IS no difference, none
whatever, electrically between the two. The only difference was that
they changed the position of the little pin sticking out of the base
so that the 300 would physically fit an earlier bayonet socket in a
very few telco boxes that were originally designed for a different
triode. This saved the bother of replacing the socket, although other
changes were needed. Since NO telco or ERPI equipment using 300s ever
had bayonet sockets there was no reason to make 300As ever again. So
the 300A to B was no change at all, practically speaking.

The most kind thing that can be said is that audiophiles hear with
their eyes and see with their ears. But more accurately, it can be
said that the single ended triode crowd are full of shit.
